Fishing in the Rivers and Lakes of Trentino

For fishing enthusiasts, the Sarca River is an ideal spot for fly fishing. Originating in the Brenta Dolomites of Trentino, the river flows through stunning green valleys before reaching the Garda Lake.
The Alto Sarca area in western Trentino is one of Italy's top sport fishing destinations, offering over 300 km of managed waters.
It also hosts the Italian and European Fly Fishing Championships, often held in Val Rendena, near our hotel in Caderzone and Madonna di Campiglio, or in the Giudicarie Valleys at Ponte Arche.  

Fishing enthusiasts in Trentino can find various fish species, particularly:

  • MARBLE TROUT, including larger specimens
  • BROWN TROUT
  • GRAYLING
  • ARCTIC CHAR in the alpine lakes

To preserve the fish population, certain areas have been designated as “No-kill” or “catch and release” zones, clearly marked with signs.

In Trentino, both artificial and natural baits are allowed, though all hooks, whether for catch-and-release or for keeping, must be barbless.
